A 2-year postdoctoral research position is available starting January
2008 in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry (University of Helsinki) in
cooperation with the Division of Atmospheric Sciences of the same
University.
We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative individual with
completed PhD in physics or physical chemistry. The applicant's PhD
degree should have been completed no longer than three (exceptionally
four) years before the starting date of the position and the applicant
should not have been employed by the University of Helsinki during the
previous two years.
The multidisciplinary experimental research will focus on optical and
chemical properties of nanoparticles embedded in low-temperature inert
matrices. This position offers an opportunity to develop research career
in a modern and highly multidisciplinary environment at the frontier
between nanotechnology, optical spectroscopy, and atmospheric sciences.
Optical spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, photoluminescence) in solid phase is
the main research method. The following background and skills are
expected from applicants: (i) General knowledge of optics and physical
chemistry and (ii) Practical experience in optical spectroscopy.
Knowledge of nanophenomena, cryogenic technique and lasers is of
advantage. A strong ability to collaborate with others is required.
The salary is according to the Finnish regulations for postdoctoral
fellows.
