Dear Sarah, Dear All,
Sorry I have been away from my desk for over a week.
I think that theory is actually implicit - my research suggests that
Mentors' ignore espoused theory from whatever source and instead rely on
their experience, which forms the basis for their own theories (Personal
Construct Theory as per Kelly, 1955).
Best wishes
Rosalind

Subject: Re: What influences a mentor's practice?
How far is theory as an explicit driver in mentoring? Fascinating question!
How far do mentors create their own theories without explicit reference to
others' theories as they explore their own learning? How far do others'
theories of mentoring influence mentors' own theorising as they reflect?
