Librarian, Systematic Reviews (Ref LSR)
Based in Slough
Salary Scale £25,559 - £28,766
Closing date - 16 November 2007
Interviews to be held on Wednesday 28 November 2007
The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) in Slough is
seeking an information professional to support its literature review
capacity.
The NFER produces a range of evidence-based literature reviews, alongside
research and/or policy syntheses on topics of interest and importance to
policy and practice in the area of education and children’s services. This
is a growing area of our business which overlaps our three information
services - the NFER Library, our core information service which focuses on
research literature; EMIE which concentrates on the work of local
authorities and their partners; and the International Information Unit. We
require additional support to undertake these reviews and to help develop
the systematic review capacity and skills that exist across the Foundation.
Candidates should hold a first degree and/or postgraduate qualification in
library and information management, and have expertise in searching UK and
international databases in the fields of education, psychology and social
care. Experience of systematic literature searching and of indexing and
keywording documents is essential. A sound knowledge of ICT, good verbal
and written communication skills, and an understanding of education and
children's services are also highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be an adaptable team player who is organised,
pays attention to detail and is able to respond well under pressure. He or
she will be required to prepare information for proposals; determine search
parameters at project start-up; write search strategies; systematically
search online databases to identify research evidence; and provide training
in systematic review methods for NFER colleagues. Scanning of websites and
journals for policy information; indexing documents for internal
information collections; and contributing to the writing of current
awareness bulletins, policy summaries and/or research syntheses will also
be part of this new role, which is a permanent full-time position reporting
to the Deputy Librarian.
NFER’s Slough Offices are based in pleasant grounds offering free car
parking and providing easy rail and road access to both Reading and London.
