Dear Galicianists,
See the attachments for details of this exciting looking conference to
be held on Spanish Republican Exile Geographies at the University of
Birmingham on 10-12 September 2008, and organised by the Centre for the
Study of Hispanic Exile.
I would like to convene a panel on the theme of "Republican Galicia in
Exile", a broad banner under which many different kinds of papers and
approaches could be gathered. My proposal for example goes in under the
name of "Forever in Galicia? Castelao and the Homeland Made in Exile".
Bearing in mind that the deadline for titles and abstracts of up to 250
words is 1st December 2007, could anyone who is interested in forming
part of this panel send on abstracts to me in my capacity as panel
organiser by November 15th 2007?
Note that a selection of the papers will be considered for publication
in a volume for the Peter Lang series on Hispanic Identities after the
conference, and that selected papers will be published online on the
Exile Remains website.
Notice also that they welcome individual papers, panels or roundtables
on any of the themes or proposals for discrete sessions on related
topics or sub-themes. So if anybody is keen to take part but does not
feel that their paper would cohere with "Republican Galicia in Exile",
it would be great if other ideas were mooted with the organisers, in
order to boost the Galicianist presence at the conference.
No language(s) of delivery are specified, so I presume that delivery in
Galician will be fine, if not English or Castilian.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
Craig Patterson
