The potential role of social networking in grassroots democratic campaigning; the raging controversy over electronic petitions, such as the online petition on the Downing Street website relating to road-pricing; and e-democracy activity by local councils are among topics to be discussed by our high-level speakers and panellists at e-Democracy '07, Headstar's annual conference on the use of the internet and other new technologies to improve the workings of democracy.
An international plenary will include a look at e-democracy in New Zealand and the US. Other topics to be covered include the pros and cons of electronic voting, with a speaker from the Electoral Commission discussing the agency's recent report into the topic.
