I am aware of that, but the word actually appears in OE documents
in the context of a saltworks (sometimes referred to as a Seal).
Spelling was not a strongpoint and literacy was not widespread at that
time, so it is quite possible the spelling was wrong, though the
interpretation in this context is correct - see Della Hooke. That does
not of course assume that Sele is generally used in that way and it was
just an enquiry!
