I think this is probably suitable as Friday fare...
BBC 1 NI is producing a programme on the early flora and fauna of Ireland and has commissioned CGI graphics for the series. I have just been sent a clip of a Giant Irish Deer walking down High Street in Belfast - it’s not bad except it bears 100% resemblance to the North American moose! The reconstructions of Giant Deer that I have seen bear more resemblance to the European red deer and the North American Elk or wapiti rather than the moose, in particular the muzzle, ears and neck.
Given the morphological and genetic link between red deer and fallow deer respectively with Giant Deer, are there grounds to assume (based also on diet, environment etc) that other aspects of the animal should also bear resemblance to red and fallow deer?
Any thoughts, advice, suggestions would much appreciated.
Emily
