Dear All,
Invitation to attend the launch of the University of Plymouth's new Centre for Sustainable Transport
The University of Plymouth is delighted to announce the launch of its new Centre for Sustainable Transport (CST) and cordially invites you to this event, to be held on Wednesday 24 October from 12.15-3.30.
The University of Plymouth has a distinguished history of transport research and teaching - notably in shipping and logistics - which is now being complemented by the establishment of the CST. The focus on sustainability recognises both the common thread uniting the transport-related work of our staff, and the adoption of the concept as one of the University's four strategic research areas. In this respect the CST is actively dovetailing its work with the Centre for Sustainable Futures, one of our four HEFCE-funded Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
The Centre for Sustainable Transport's academic staff hails from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including transport studies, economics, environmental studies, geography, law and sociology. Importantly the CST also embraces applied researchers from the Social Research and Regeneration Unit and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership. With this combination of academic and practitioner expertise, the CST is well placed to produce work of the highest quality in the service of a wide range of stakeholders.
To mark the launch we will be staging a mini-conference on New Ideas in Rural Accessibility and Mobility to showcase cutting-edge research into critical rural issues by highly respected academics (see below). The event will be held in the University's Robbins Conference Centre (see enclosed map). It will begin at 12.15 with lunch and a chance to meet CST staff and other colleagues, and conclude by 3.30 after time for questions and discussion with the keynote speakers. The conference - which is free of charge - is guaranteed to be of great interest and value to academics, local and regional government officials, consultants, voluntary and community groups and many others involved with transport matters and rural communities.
We very much hope you will be able to join us for the launch of the Centre. If you would like to attend or receive more details about the event, please contact the CST's Director, Dr Jon Shaw ([log in to unmask]). If you are interested in the event but are unable to attend, you will be able to view proceedings and obtain more information about the Centre on our website (www.ssb.plymouth.ac.uk/cst). Either way, we look forward to working with you during the continuing development of the Centre for Sustainable Transport.
Kind regards,
