You know research is important. Make sure everyone else does.
Public Engagement Programme Manager
£23,800 + excellent benefits
Swindon
Genetic fingerprinting, flooding prediction, energy efficient building
design, the lasers used in our CD and DVD - all result from breakthroughs
in Engineering and Physical Sciences. Here at the Engineering and Physical
Sciences Research Council, we’re responsible for providing the funding that
makes such breakthroughs possible. We are looking for an outstanding
individual to help us manage an extensive programme of activities to engage
the public about the research we fund.
Our public engagement programme has several key aims - making sure that the
research we fund evolves in tune with society, that people want to pursue
careers in science and engineering, and that the public are kept well-
informed about the benefits and advances arising from research. You’ll have
a key role to play in the success of this programme. Much of the role will
be managing funding schemes to enable researchers to engage with the public
about their research, managing relationships and working collaboratively
with other organisations. Through involvement in festivals, exhibitions and
events, you’ll raise awareness of research and its impacts on society –
here you’ll take a strategic overview - it will be up to you to establish
what’s required and why, while other professionals organise the details.
This is a great opportunity for a superb communicator educated to degree
level, with the ability to multitask and prioritise a busy workload.
Strategic vision and an enthusiasm for science are essential, with the
ability to travel frequently in the UK. An understanding of the issues
relating to science in society and science education would be an advantage.
