George Bush recently visited "Australia" (weird name) and reassured this proud people that "we" (the yanquis or whatever) are "kicking ass" in Iraq. He then referred to "Australians" as Austrians -- so you guys now get to claim Mozart and Hitler. You know, I wonder how they made sure we didn't see any kangaroos or wallabies or surfers when they filmed "The Sound of Music?" In any case I am encouraged that so many of you Austrians write pretty good English.

Mexicans and other non-USian Americans call us a variety of things,
not all polite, including estadounidense, yanqui, gabacho
(generalized foreigner, formerly used exclusively of the French),
gringo, guero (blondie--applies to blond mexicans, but to USians of
any complexion), yuma (in Cuba--from the film 3:10 to Yuma, which was
enormously popular there), norteamericano, and sometimes americano.
There are probably a slew of others I'm not aware of. In Mexico put
pinche in front of any of them to make it really nasty.
