>> Bodysurf Scotland in partnership with videodance.org.uk
>> presents
>> Opensource:{video-dance} 2007
>>
>> We would like to invite you to our second symposium at the
>> Universal Hall Arts Centre, Findhorn Foundation Community,
>> Scotland from 20th – 24th November 2007.
>>
>> Screen dance is a rapidly expanding area of artistic, academic and
>> curatorial activity worldwide. Inherent in screen dance practice
>> is the interface and collaboration between dance artists and media
>> arts practitioners. Opensource: {Videodance} 2007 is an open
>> symposium for artists, academics, curators and producers coming
>> together, to share ideas and work, network and debate, and provide
>> a valuable platform for current issues in the area of screen dance
>> practice to come to the surface. Building on the strengths of the
>> 2006 event, this symposium expressly aims to place current screen
>> dance practice in a wider theoretical and critical context and to
>> bring people from the collaborating disciplines together in a way
>> that rarely happens, in order to impact significantly and
>> positively on the lives and work of the participating individuals.
>>
>> The vision is to create an exciting and supportive place for
>> people to engage, talk, hang out, relax, think, and listen, and to
>> enable the spontaneous and dynamic unfolding of events. We are
>> planning to travel lightly. There will be a structure, but no
>> fixed agenda. The programme for the four days will be a mixture of
>> pre-arranged presentations and open forums initiated by the
>> participants.
>>
>> Whilst the greater part of the timetable will be dedicated to
>> allowing the participants to initiate and following though
>> discussion, we will again approach a select few artists/academics
>> to give special presentations/lectures designed to inspire and
>> provoke thought beyond the direct concerns of the participants.
>> This year we also have some formal presentations from the
>> following six artist /academics selected from submissions.
>>
>> Claudia Kappenberg (Senior Lecturer Dance and visual Art -
>> University of Brighton, UK)
>>
>> Marisa Zanotti (Senior Lecturer Dance on Screen, University of
>> Chichester)
>>
>> Simon Ellis – (Choreographer & Research Fellow Performance
>> Studies, University of Northampton)
>>
>> Becky Edmunds – (video artist, UK )
>>
>> Harmony Bench – (Doctoral candidate UCLA Dept. of World Arts and
>> Cultures and Editor-in-chief, Extensions Journal)
>>
>> Kamma Siegumfeldt – (University of Trondheim, Norway / Dansenshus
>> Copenhagen) (tbc)
>>
>>
>>
>> We can announce our first guest evening speaker: Award-winning and
>> leading screendance academic Douglas Rosenberg , Professor ,
>> University Wisconsin, USA will open the symposium with a
>> presentation and curated screening of works from ADF Screendance
>> festival plus a special documentary on Dance for Camera made in
>> 1982 for US TV, written by Sally Banes and Noel Carroll. Other
>> Guests speakers will be confirmed soon.
>>
>> Last year we employed scribes to document the symposium
>> proceedings. The results of their diligent activities can be seen
>> in the resulting publication which can be purchased at http://
>> www.lulu.com/content/475788 . Two scribes for 2007 have been
>> appointed so far:
>>
>> Charlotte Miles (Dance for camera co-ordinator at South East
>> Dance) and Kyra Norman (Researcher at University of Bristol /
>> Associate lecturer at Dartington College of Arts.)
>>
>> The symposium will be based at the Findhorn Foundation Community,
>> which known throughout the world as a major international centre
>> of personal and spiritual transformation and sustainable living.
>> The community itself is situated on a 2-mile long peninsula
>> amongst beautiful beaches, sand dunes and woodland. It is located
>> in the North East of Scotland near to Inverness and Aberdeen
>> Airports.
>>
>> There is a range of accommodation available and we will feed you
>> good mostly organic food. We can also help to arrange childcare.
>> We will give you an inspiring and nurturing environment, some
>> speakers to inspire, some surprises, the unexpected, some music,
>> some art. We will take you on a walk to the beach, we will eat
>> together and we will give you time to make your thoughts and talk
>> and listen. Bring a book, bring a film, bring a song, bring a
>> voice, bring your ideas, bring a presentation, bring a question,
>> bring no preconceptions. Don’t bring a video camera.
>>
>>
>>
>> Please let us know if you would like to join us at Findhorn in
>> November 2007, or whether you are considering it as a possibility.
>> Contact us at Bodysurf Scotland for details of fees, accommodation
>> and travel arrangements. We would also like you to extend this
>> invitation to others who you think might be interested in joining
>> us. We will keep up-dating you with information about the
>> symposium, as plans evolve. We look forward to hearing from you.
