www.torbytes.com was a project we did a while back that never got
fully fleshed out with content (and has broken a bit since they took
it back in-house)
since then we have further developed the software, but the principle
is the same. A content management system that handles all sorts of
digitised images (and other elements), multiple author
interpretations with editorial control, a bespoke script that
produces a website (for Intranet, kiosk or internet use), a search
engine (results are broken on the torbytes site) and a heirarchical
browse by theme layout.
we're gearing up to launch Xebitor, via gatewaytothepast.com and for
beta testing we're planning to offer a number of free systems to
social history/friends of the museum groups with interesting image
collections.
let me know if you're interested in exploring this possibility.
Kind regards
Tony
