THE INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY & INFORMATION GROUP OF CILIP
presents
TWO HALF-DAY SEMINARS
on
WEB 2.0: the basics (A.M.) and COPYRIGHT - what you need to know (P.M.)
Monday 15 October 2007
in The British Library Conference Centre,
Euston Road, London NW1 2DB,
9.45 - 12.45 and 13.30 - 16.30
Concise and value-for-money opportunities to update yourself on two
fast moving areas of key relevance to all information professionals
Seminar One: 10.00 - 12.45 (registration 9.45)
Web 2.0: the basics
Facilitated and presented by Phil Bradley (Internet Consultant)
Chaired by Hazel Dakers (ILIG Chairman)
Covers Web 2.0 resources and how they can be used to enhance library
services. Discusses RSS, weblogs, instant messaging, podcasting,
start pages, social bookmarking, Flickr, custom search engines,
creating communities with wikis and portals (and more!). Final
session for questions and discussion. This seminar is being repeated
for the third time to meet requests from librarians who have not been
able to find a place in the earlier seminars.
Seminar Two: 13.45 - 16.30 (registration 13.30)
Copyright - what you need to know
Facilitated and presented by Graham Cornish (Copyright Circle Consultant)
Chaired by Stephanie Kenna (Manager, Regional and Library Programmes, BL)
Covers the fundamentals of copyright - principles and practice -
concentrating on the digital environment but also including print.
The approach will be by presentations but also offer real life
problems and scenarios faced by the librarian in day-to-day work.
There will be ample time for questions and answers. Most of the
afternoon will be spent on the implementation of the existing law,
but the final session will look at changes to be expected as a result
of Gowers.
