KEELE UNIVERSITY, FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES, SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL AND
GEOGRAPHICAL SCIENCES.
THREE-YEAR LECTURESHIP IN ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE
Salary in the range of Grade 7a: £29,139- £33,779
Closing date for applications: 16th October 2007
Post reference: AC07/46INT
This new three-year lectureship in Engineering and Environmental
Geoscience, available from January 2008, results from the continued
development of Earth Sciences at Keele and research expansion within the
Applied and Environmental Geophysics Group. Applications are welcome
from individuals committed to high quality teaching and research in
Engineering and Environmental Geoscience. Applications from candidates
working in all areas of Engineering and Environmental Geoscience will be
considered, including: geotechnical and environmental engineering;
numerical modelling of geophysical, geological, geotechnical and
environmental phenomena; near-surface geophysical applications,
rock/soil physics and geomechanics.
Candidates will be expected to contribute to the delivery of our current
undergraduate programmes in Geology and MGeoscience, in addition to
teaching on our Earth System Science and Applied Environmental Science
degree pathways, as appropriate. Geology is part of a very well equipped
School with newly refurbished Geoscience and Analytical laboratories
with state of the art facilities for physical, chemical, environmental
and forensic analysis. The successful candidate will join a dynamic
Earth Sciences and Geography grouping with an excellent research
infrastructure and a strong track record in providing high quality
educational programmes.
This post, part of a series of three strategic Lectureships, is intended
to strengthen staffing in the Earth Sciences and reflect the growing
commitment to, and opportunities in, Geology teaching and research at
Keele. In particular, the post presents many new opportunities for the
development of synergies in both teaching and research between geology
and the environmental sciences, physical geography, chemistry,
analytical and forensic science and physics. Areas of geoscience
research at Keele include; applied and environmental geophysics, the
structural, stratigraphic and geodynamic evolution of sedimentary
basins, subglacial and Ice marginal processes, landforms and
environments, igneous and metamorphic petrochemistry, palaeontology and
palaeobiology, volcanic and magmatic processes, forensic geophysics and
environmental citizenship.
Candidates will be expected to develop an active research programme in
Engineering and Environmental Geoscience within the Applied and
Environmental Geophysics Group (part of the Environment, Physical
Sciences and Applied Mathematics (EPSAM) Research Institute), that both
complements and extends our existing research strengths.
