I honestly don't know about Mariko Mori, but there is undoubtedly a Japanese influence. As I argue in my book, the production design of Minority Report and A.I. (and, significantly, that of The Matrix previously) owes much to the anime, Ghost in the Shell, the sequel of which was distributed by Dreamworks.

Subject: Mariko Mori/Spielberg query
Since so many eminent Spielbergians seem to traffic here, I have a
small research question from an art history postgraduate: she
hypothesizes that part of the production design in MINORITY REPORT
could have inspired by some work by the artist Mariko Mori. Does
anyone know if this is avowedly the case that Spielberg was drawing
upon this source?
thanks, Adrian
