I do not like medical model language, this sounds like a political
construction to me, not as I dislike political constructions, it is just
that I prefer my own, I do not recognise the category Schizophrenia because
it is part of the Kreapelinian paradigm that is as false to me as are the
flat erthers and homeopaths, just to put things in perspective :)
Apart from that the bloody thing is probably NTSC

Subject: Psychiatric Survivor Researchers Video: Highly Reccomended
Dear Friends: Please find below links to an incredible dvd entitled "
Hearing Our Voices: A Participatory Research Study on Schizophrenia and
Homelessness". Psychiatric survivor researchers
interviewed other persons with scizophrenia who were or had been homeless.
They then performed a theatre piece based on the actual words of
interviewees. The video is a compelling piece of work.
There may be two hesitations associated with this video. First, the video
uses medical model language. However, the research participants describe the
social conditions which constitute their oppression. Second, the psychiatric
survivor group Unsung Heroes is affiliated with the Scizophrenia Society
which (in Ontario and Nova Scotia in Canada) advocates the use of community
treatment orders. This video however was done by psychiatric survivors with
the support of a local university professor who is a family member.
In the interests of full disclosure, I am not related in any way to
participants in this venture. However, i did receive a complimentary copy of
the video. Lilith
