Well Question Mark's QML pre-dates QTI - I expect each vendor had (has?)
something similar with varying degrees of openness.
There was also "TML", Tutorial Markup Language which was developed at
Bristol University before QTI was dreamt of.
AskML was done independently by the survey community but I don't know if
that is still going or even it really got off the ground.
