Sounds like a fascinating topic Eric.
Searching www.biab.ac.uk produces a large number of publications by J.
Abercromby. You could then use www.copac.ac.uk to find out which
institutions hold these publications.

Subject: [BRITARCH] Information on J. Abercromby
I'm trying to track down information on the late 19th century
Scottish antiquarian John Abercromby for a story I'm researching on
Sassanian-era fortifications in the
Caucuses. It turns out Abercromby's four week trip to the region in
the 1880s resulted in the single best description of the site,
published in the 1890 Scottish Geographical Magazine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks very much,
