Hello everyone
John Benson here, Project Archivist at queerupnorth
International Festival in Manchester. The board of the
organisation here have been unable to reach a
consensus about what to do with the board papers.
Originally they suggested that the materials
(deposited with Manchester Archives and Local Studies)
should be subject to a period of restricted access of
thirty years. However, there is also a point of view
from one element of the board, with which I
sympathise, that the papers should, subject to being
checked for material likely to infringe the DPA and/or
is confidential, be open. I wondered if anyone had any
experience of dealing with the board papers of an arts
organisation and was able to advise what their
experience of this issue has been. Certainly those
board papers I have already placed with MALS contain
no material likely to cause problems either under the
terms of the DPA or for the organisation itself.
The next board has now requested advice for the next
meeting on what similar organisations do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
John Benson
