External Relations Officer

The Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the
Norwegian Refugee Council is looking for an experienced External Relations
Officer to lead and develop the Centre’s fundraising function. Mandated by
the United Nations, the IDMC is the leading international body monitoring
internal displacement worldwide. For more information on the Centre and

is currently engaged in a process of organizational development and the
incumbent will be actively involved in this process.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be the point of contact for the development
of a comprehensive fundraising strategy designed to maintain and increase
IDMC’s overall reach and funding level (currently three million USD). More
specifically, the candidate will:
• develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for
IDMC in close consultation with the Resident Representative;
• develop a comprehensive fundraising portfolio and new channels for
promotional materials appropriate for potential donors;
• act as the focal point for the office on donor contacts;
• generate and prepare proposals, marketing materials and other
information for submission to donors and potential donors, in close
cooperation with relevant staff members;
• lead the Centre’s donor reporting processes, including draft
expenditure reports to donors and ensure timely and accurate reporting;
• facilitate the development of joint advocacy initiatives for
donors and IDMC supporters on key IDP issues of common concern;
• build and develop relationships based on mutual trust and
transparency with donors.
This is a challenging job addressing the important issue of internal
displacement, which has substantial untapped fundraising potential. Make a

Qualifications and Skills
• Relevant Professional experience;
• Advanced University degree in political or social sciences or a
similar area;
• Proven fundraising and marketing experience and leadership
capacity;
• Diplomatic abilities which include political sensitivity, mature
judgement and strong negotiation skills;
• Social and team-building skills and experience working in an
international, multi-cultural environment;
• Excellent budgeting and financial skills, including the monitoring
and evaluation of budgets.
• Fluency in English, with working knowledge of other major
languages a plus;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office, email and internet.
Candidates should be highly motivated, well organised, and able to work
efficiently within an international team.
Candidates should preferably be available for this position as soon as
possible.
