While this recent message doesn't refer explicitly to the email I sent round
on Friday it does pick up on the themes of Latin-through-literacy and
story-telling as mentioned by Richard. As he was mooting additional areas, I
presume that this is a branch of the same project... So FYI...
______________________________________________________________
The iris project is expanding its Latin-through-literacy pilot scheme from
one to sixteen schools in Hackney from this September. Using literacy
lessons, children in these classes will be taught using an activity-based
course which delivers Latin using storytelling and the myths of Ovid. The
children's literacy skills will be assessed at the beginning and end of the
year.
The course is being delivered by a team of UCL and KCL students who have
been trained to deliver the course, and the schools will have community
drama events and talks arranged throughout the year to accompany and enhance
their learning of Latin.
