Starlink Software Collection - "Puana (Procyon)" Release

The Joint Astronomy Centre announces a new release of the Starlink
Software Collection.
Highlights of the "Puana (Procyon)" release include:
* Sourceplot is now included, allowing for az/el plotting of astronomical
objects.
* NDF sections can now be specified using WCS coordinates.
* RICE-compressed FITS images are now handled natively by GAIA, giving
speed improvements.
* A new application named BEAMFIT is provided in KAPPA for fitting up to
five Gaussian beam features, useful for fitting JCMT beammaps.
* Significant improvements to cube creation in SMURF/MAKECUBE.
* Improved heterodyne spectrum handling in SPLAT.
* Improved conversions between NDF and FITS formats, including better
support for CLASS-style WCS FITS headers.

Support

The Starlink Project was terminated in June 2005. The Starlink Software
Collection is being maintained by the JAC, with support from PPARC, for
the benefit of our users. Bugs or feature requests reproducible with UKIRT
or JCMT data sets should be e-mailed to [log in to unmask] where they
will be attended to in priority order.
Non-JAC users are encouraged to report bugs to [log in to unmask]
where they may be attended to on a best-efforts basis by volunteers.
Open source developers wishing to send in patches or wanting access to the
CVS repository should email [log in to unmask]
Getting the software
--------------------
You can download tar files of the software collection for a number of
architectures from:
http://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/download/
JAC currently runs 32- and 64-bit Linux operationally. Other platforms are
supported on a best efforts basis.
Licencing
---------
The bulk of the collection is distributed under the GNU Public Licence
(http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt), and the remainder under the old
Starlink Licence (http://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/old-license.txt).
