Er, Ralph of Dicetum. There's no place called 'Diceto' whence R. is thought to have come. The frequency of this usage in English notwithstanding, 'of Diceto' is a mistranslation of the Latin _de Diceto_, just as in the equally erroneous 'James of Voragine' (or 'James of Varagine') the 'of Voragine' ('of Varagine') is a mistranslation of _de Voragine_ (_de Varagine_), i.e. 'of Voraggio/Varaggio', today's Varazze (GE). R.'s Dicetum has not been identified to the satisfaction of all. Diss in Norfolk is a leading candidate.
Best again,
John Dillon
