Dear all,
Please find below an advertisement for a funded PhD position at the
University of Dundee. If one of your colleagues or students could
potentially be interested, perhaps it could be brought to their
attention?
Many thanks and best wishes,

Performance of Heavy Duty Cable Ploughs
University of Dundee / Technip CASE studentship
Offshore cables can be installed by using a plough to create a trench
ahead of the
cable. However, recent experience has shown that stability problems
can exist when
the plough encounters layered soils. By performing a
series of controlled experiments on scale-model ploughs and combining
this
data with that collected during offshore ploughing operations, this
project aims to create a reliable method for estimating forces acting
on
ploughs in different soils. This will result in improved performance
predictions, as well as indications of plough stability in softer
soils.
A UK student (or EU, with 3+ years residency) is sought. The 3 year
PhD CASE project
carries a stipend of £15,600 tax free p.a. and brings excellent
industrial
contacts. For further details, please enquire to Andrew Brennan,
[log in to unmask], tel: 01382 384348.
