Ukraine - Romania - Moldova:
Historical, Political and Cultural Relations
in the Context of Modern European Processes
18-19 September 2007, Chernivtsi, Ukraine



The Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the
Faculty of 
History, Political Science and International Relations of Yuriy
Fedkovych 
Chernivtsi National University, and the Bukovynian Center for Political 
Studies, in close cooperation with and financially supported by the
Friedrich 
Ebert Foundation in Ukraine and the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian
Studies, 
University of Alberta, with the participation of the Chernivtsi Oblast 
Administration, are pleased to announce the Third International
Scientific 
Conference 'Ukraine - Romania - Moldova: Historical, Political and
Cultural 
Relations in the Context of Contemporary European Processes', which will
be 
held at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University on  September
18-19, 
2007, on the premises of the Faculty of History, Political Science and 
International Relations.

      Primary objectives of the conference are:

1.     Strengthening ties among scholars regarding problems of
cooperation and 
present-day relations between and among Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova.
2.     Defining the problem areas in relations between and among
Ukraine, 
Romania and Moldova and elaborating up-to-date approaches to solving
them.
3.     Making proposals for follow-up scientific and practical events,
drafting 
and implementing bilateral and trilateral models of interaction among 
historians, political scientists, cultural anthropologists and NGO
activists of 
Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, and drafting recommendations for central
and 
regional authorities and bodies of local self-government aimed at
streamlining 
bilateral and trilateral cooperation.


The conference will include the following main sections (panels):

1.Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan relations: lessons from the past.
2.The security dimension of trilateral relations: energy and
military-political 
aspects.
3.Political, legal, socioeconomic and civil ties between and among
Ukraine, 
Romania and Moldova: European integration as their inseparable
component.
4.Developing joint approaches to studying and managing ethno-national
processes 
in relations between and among Ukraine, Romania and Moldova.
5.Cultural, academic and educational dimensions of relations between and
among 
Ukraine, Romania and Moldova.

      The latest relevant publications will be presented during the
conference.
      Interested scholars are asked to send a one-page abstract of their

proposed report or comment, their CV, and contact information before
August 28, 
2007, to the Academic Coordinator of the Project:

     Applicants selected by the organizing committee will receive
further 
instructions and information about accommodation in Chernivtsi by
September 8, 
2007.
      Participants will be provided with free meals and accommodation
for the 
duration of the conference. There is a limited number of stipends for
round 
trips to Chernivtsi by train (coupe car) or bus.
