Hi Angela,
We have recently recruited for Specialist Mentors to work with students
who have Asperger Syndrome, and/or ADHD, and/or mental health
difficulties. The post of Specialist Mentor had to go through role
analysis/HERA.
The outcome in terms of the level of pay wasn't quite what we expected -
it was significantly lower, generating a figure that was less than half
of what we had expected to pay these Mentors. I think the main reason
for this is that we had specifically decided not to ask for a first
degree or other qualification, but rather to put the emphasis on key
experience which we felt was more important. It was in not asking for a
specific qualification that the rate of pay was lower than expected.
We were concerned that this would have an impact on the type of people
that would apply for the post, but we have actually received some
excellent applications from just the kind of people we were hoping to
attract.
Hope that helps - let me know if you need any further info.

Subject: Role Analysis of Support Workers
Does anyone have any experience of putting their support workers
including Notetakers, Mentors and Dyslexia Tutors through the HERA
process? I'd be interested to hear from you about your experiences (and
if you had any paperwork relating to this you'd be willing to share).
Thanks in advance
Angela
