There is now a British Standard for security shredding: BS8470.
I haven't read it but the German equivalent recommends that Secret documents
should be shredded to pieces not larger than 2mm x 15mm. Higher than Secret
must not be larger than 0.8mm x 13mm. (Parker, E (1999) p 112. It's still
probably best to put the shreddings in the confidential waste for pulping on
both security and environmental grounds.
