EPSRC PhD Studentship in the Faculty of Education, University of Glasgow
Applications are invited for a three year PhD studentship funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council - EPSRC
Supervisors: Jane Magill and Brian Canavan
Theme: Perceptions of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and the role of influential stakeholders and public engagement in shaping these perceptions.
Research might include some of the following topics:
Factors which affect and inform public perceptions of STEM
Actions to change perceptions
Research areas might include:
School outreach or enrichment
Public events
National/international differences and perspectives
Curriculum change
The role of influential stakeholders in informing and determining perceptions of STEM
The role of policymaking, economic, social and cultural change in determining perceptions of STEM
The studentship will be full time and located at the University of Glasgow
Start date: at or soon after 1st October 2007
Duration 3 years fees plus stipend at EPSRC agreed rates (£12,600 for 07/08) plus access to faculty/departmental research support.
Applicants should be normally resident in the UK and should have completed a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in science, engineering or mathematics. In addition applicants should have some experience in Public Engagement, or Science Communication activities or coursework.
