DCC Data Centre Research/Liaison Officer

18 months in the first instance 

The main objective for this post is to build bridges with UK data centres,
to understand their current curation and preservation practices, and to
share their experiences with other stakeholder communities. The post holder
will carry out research into what tools are currently available for digital
curation and preservation activity and also investigate how they are being
used by a range of communities. The post holder will work closely with DCC
User Services team and the DCC Tools and Infrastructure team to define, run,
evaluate, and describe a number of experiments pertaining to curation and
preservation tools in the DCC Testbed environment.  

Appointment will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative
Grade, level 7, spine point 32-36 depending on experience.

HATII Projects Postdoctoral Researchers (2)

The Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII)
promotes research and teaching in the area of humanities informatics and the
application of information, communication and technology within the teaching
and research activities of the University's Faculties of Arts and Divinity
(see www.hatii.arts.gla.ac.uk). It has a proven track record in the areas of
digitization, digital curation and preservation. HATII supports one of the
most extensive and advanced network infrastructures of any comparable
faculty in the UK HE sector. Its aim is to actively encourage the use of
information technology and information to improve research and teaching in
the arts and humanities and e-Science communities. To this end it offers
courses at the undergraduate and post graduate levels as well as
international summer schools. HATII has a well established track record in
the introduction and promotion of new technologies into the cultural
heritage and e-Science domains.

The Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII) at the
University of Glasgow intends to recruit two Postdoctoral Researchers to
produce world-class research outputs for a range of our digital curation and
preservation projects. The purpose of this post will be to carry out cutting
edge research into digital curation and preservation issues. During the
initial period the focus of research will be on semantic metadata extraction
and natural language processing in the automation of description of digital
objects. Research topics of interest include but are not limited to:

. Data Integration
. Annotation and Provenance
. Appraisal and archiving
. Referencing techniques in scientific data
. Optimisation in scientific data
. Data preservation
. Semantic Metadata Extraction
. Natural Language Processing

We are seeking outstanding researchers with a Ph.D degree or equivalent and
with experience in areas of computer science related to one or more of the
topics above. Successful candidates will engage in research and will
collaborate where appropriate with a range of user communities for HATII
research projects. You will be encouraged to initiate new research relevant
to digital curation. There may also be opportunities to teach on HATII
undergraduate and post graduate course and/or to supervise post graduate
students.
