Currently the tax on a litre of petrol is about 78% so boycotting the oil
companies will make no difference what so ever to the price of petrol. If
petrol costs £1 per litre, 78p goes to the government. So to suggest that
there is a chance of reducing the cost of a litre to 65p simply isn't
possible, even if the oil companies sold at cost the lowest it could go is
78p. And that's without paying the forecourt staff!
Why do you think there are so many coffee shops in petrol stations
nowadays? The oil companies make more profit on the coffee than the petrol!
So if you really want to make a difference to petrol prices, lobby the
government.
