hello
i watched with interest the discussion on suspension trauma in the past
knowing this was brewing in my workplace.(thanks all for the info)
i have had a meeting today with health and safety, training, engineering
managers, FLT managers and "suppliers of services" team.
we are looking at using one provider to deliver on site training (no
touting for business please!) we want to incorporate crush, suspension and
electrocution injuries in the training. (my dim dark memory was crush and
electrocution are taught anyway)
this will address all future first aid training...cutting to the
point...how do we teach the "old" first aiders about the need to keep
someone who has been suspended upright?
if i as an OH nurse attend a training on suspension trauma, can i role out
a programme of "awareness" sessions? say 10-15 mins in duration.
(we have over 500 first aiders over a 24 hr operation over many sites- and
it may implicate our other OH team!)i have previously trialled an "OH
supports the first aider" hour when i advised about universal precautions
and hep b and staff could discuss their concerns about treatmetns they had
given and also clear up the urban myths of personal injury claims. this
was very successful and the company wonder if as we role out this type of
thing if suspension trauma could be included.
i have contacted the RCN and am awaiting a reply...anyone offer any ideas?
