Dear collegues,
A post-doctoral position is available from 1 September 2007 to develop and
employ a new femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy experiment for the study
of gas-phased cluster anions.
Post description:
Applications for a post-doctoral position to work in the group of Dr. Jan
Verlet in the Chemistry department at University of Durham, are invited. The
successful candidate will develop a new time-resolved photoelectron
spectroscopy instrument for the study of ultrafast phenomena in gas-phased
clusters. Experimental work will aim at investigating photo-detachment and
-dissociation dynamics of a wide range of cluster anions, ranging from small
singly and multiply inorganic charged anions to molecules of biological
interest and solvated species. The post-doctoral associate will be
responsible for developing and implementing a new photoelectron spectrometer
and for the planning, executing, and interpreting the experiments under the
direction of the principal investigator. For further particulars and
informal enquires, contact Dr. Jan Verlet at [log in to unmask]
Salary: £26,666 per annum.
Qualifications Criteria:
A Ph.D. in experimental physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related
field is required. Candidates are expected to have a strong publication
record and a demonstrated ability to make original scientific
contributions. Previous experience in the areas of mass spectrometry, laser
diagnostics and spectroscopy, high vacuum systems, and/or scientific
programming
is desired.
Department Description:
The Department of Chemistry at Durham University is highly rated both in
research (5*A in RAE 2001) and teaching (“excellent” in the most recent
Teaching Quality Assessment), with currently 32 permanent research group
leaders, 97 Ph.D. students and about 50 postdoctoral and research fellows.
The Department has strong links with the Biology and Physics Departments.
