Assistant analysts for the Creative Industries Observatory, London College
of Communication
The Creative Industries Observatory (CIO) based at London College of
Communication, University of the Arts is an international research project
aimed at mapping the structure content and dynamics of the creative
industries in 6 world cities – London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Mumbai
and New Delhi. A key purpose of the project is to collect high quality data
enabling the development of academic research in the creative industries,
and to contribute to the growth of London-based creative businesses in the
markets of India and China.
We are looking for part-time staff to help with collecting, archiving and
inputting primary and secondary data as the nature of the research includes
the analysis of large (qualitative and quantitative) datasets. The job will
include searching for, summarising and archiving existing industry,
government and academic articles/reports focussed on creative industries. It
will also include working with quantitative and qualitative company
specific data. Depending on experience levels – you may be asked to conduct
some basic analysis guided by senior research staff.. You will be working in
an interdisciplinary and exciting research team and need to flexible and
willing to contribute to research and administration in various ways.
We are looking for students, preferably at masters degree level, with an
interest in creative industries research and ability to conduct high quality
data collection. We expect candidates to spend a minimum of 2 days a week in
the CIO offices at London College of Communication (Elephant & Castle). You
will need to have a critical and analytical mind as well as an aptitude for
numbers and working with data. A practical and/or academic interest in the
creative industries is also highly desirable. This role will enable you to
gain experience of working with an international and inter-disciplinary
research team on a topical and timely research project, with leading
academics in the field of the creative industries.
The rate of pay would be £8.52 per hour.
