Be careful though. Despite my computer easily surpassing the minimum
system requirements the app has repeatedly crashed my computer each time
when trying out the tech preview. I do get to see some of it, but when
zooming out after an 'extreme close-up' everything stops. Make sure you
save your work first!

Oh, and I see that at last you can get the app, last time I looked you
could only play with what they'd put together. Fantastic!
Incidentally,
for something a bit less mind-blowing but still a nice way of getting
something more immersive from plain pictures, have a look at
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dhoiem/projects/popup/index.html. Again, you
can
get the app there and try it yourself.

Hi Frances,
This is absolutely astonishing. I have less than no idea how the
system
is extrapolating the connections between completely different photos
but
the range of potential applications in museums is enormous.
I was particularly interested in his use of hi-res images to embed
'hidden'
layers of additional information in the car advertisement. It would be
fascinating to consider ways in which museum object images could be
enriched in this way.
It's not often you get to see a bit of technology which is genuinely
going to change the way people behave, so this has really brightened
up
my day - many thanks for sending it to the list!

I thought I would share this video regarding a new application that
(among other things) can stitch together similar images of a location
from flickr based on tags. Its really unbelievable.
