Precept-Lite for paraprofessionals
Precept-Lite is a course designed for library paraprofessionals who are new
in post or who need to refresh their literature searching skills. Based on
the highly successful Precept series of courses on literature searching and
evidence filters, Precept-Lite provides library paraprofessionals with a
solid foundation in the basics of searching, digesting and filtering the
literature. The course can be undertaken via two routes: combined e-learning
and face-to-face workshop, or e-learning only.
What does the course cover?
 Background to Medline and basics of searching
 Breaking down a search query/planning a search strategy
 Introduction to subject headings and subheadings
 Searching for specific study designs
 Basics of critical appraisal
The unique online format will enable library paraprofessionals to work at
their own pace and to fit their learning around their working patterns.
The course tutors are Andrew Booth, Claire Beecroft, Anthea Sutton and Colin
Lynch, all of whom have extensive experience of literature searching.
Additionally, the course tutors have considerable experience of online
