Dear all,
Our Art & Design school approached me about the possibility of
undergraduate dissertations being passed to the library in CD rather
than paper form.
This would give us a chance to start to provide a digital collection of
theses, but there would be a number of issues:
* Storage - on a server, or just a collection of CDs in the
library?
* Policy - consideration of the implications across the whole
library and computing service and all faculties would need to be
considered
* Plagiarism - it would be easier for students to plagiarise large
sections of dissertations if they were available digitally
* A working group on Theses (about 3 years ago) recognised that it
was likely that schools would move towards electronic submission of
theses
Have any of you had experience of accepting theses in electronic form,
and have you any advice for us at Salford? Please send replies to me at
