Description: This 3-day field trip will focus on
the Paleoproterozoic orogens of the southwestern
U.S., and their positions within global
reconstructions. We will visit the Yavapai and
Mojave crustal provinces, Arizona. Key themes
will be (1) nature of province boundaries, (2)
deformational, metamorphic, and plutonic
histories, and (3) models for crustal growth and
assembly (arc accretion, role of transcurrent
faults, rifting and bimodal magmatism). Tentative
field localities include: Yavapai province -
Cleator shear zone, Crazy Basin, Brady Butte;
Chino Valley; Mojave province Cerbat Mountains,
and possibly Hualapai Mountains.
The trip will be in conjunction with the Arizona Geological Society Symposium:
Ores and Orogenesis: Circum-Pacific
Tectonics,Geologic Evolution, and Ore Deposits -
A symposium in honor of William R. Dickinson
Tucson, Arizona
24-30 September, 2007
In addition, on Wednesday, September 26, there will be a special session:
UNESCO IGCP SYMPOSIUM: Palaeoproterozoic Supercontinents
and Global Evolution: Ernie Duebendorfer, Karl
Karlstrom, Kevin Chamberlain, & Mike Williams, Session Chairs
