Ladies and Gentlemen,
dear Colleagues!
The European Commission has been funding a European Union wide research
project on the topic of foreign prisoners in the respective Member
States of the European Union.
The survey has been performed by a large group of national experts.
The final results are now being available in a two-volume edition.
The Editors, F. Hofstee-van der Meulen, F. Duenkel and A. v. Kalmthout
provide an introductory chapter with - inter alia - a concise overview
of the topic and the main results across all countries concerned. Then
follow the individual Member State reports, containing statistics,
comments on the legal status, the most relevant regulations, the living
situation in prison etc.
Even those of you not particularly interested in European matters may
find a large amount of data and qualitative information on what it
means, organizationally and individually, to do time as a prisoner in a
foreign country resp. prison.
Further details can be found under the following URL:

With best regards,
Hans-J. Kerner
