I asked a similar question some years ago and received a helpful reply from
Peter Bell in Australia, where Bewick Moreing had considerable interests.
Some of the best sources, are seemingly within the Herbert Hoover archives.
For example: Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. Historical
Materials: Microfilm - Bewick, Moreing and Co.: Selected papers relating to
Herbert Hoover, 1897-1926. Property of Bewick, Moreing & Co. 1 reel.
There is also some useful material in the standard works on Hoover, e.g.
Volume I of George Nash’s biography "The Life of Herbert Hoover" (Norton, New
York, 1983). As far as I can tell, there are no significant archives in
Britain. I have written some of this material up, mainly in the context of the
founder of the company, Thomas John Bewick, and part of this was published in:
Linsley, S. M., ‘Thomas John Bewick, 1821-1897, Mining Engineer, Part 1’,
North Pennine Heritage, 30 (Spring, 1997) 4-7; ‘Part 2’, North Pennine
Heritage, 31 (Summer, 1997) 3-4.
There will also be an entry for Bewick in a forthcoming dictionary of civil
engineers.
Prof. Giordano Sivini can contact me directly if he wishes.
