Very pleased to see this report.
A lot of us work in isolation, I'm the only ict museums person. As cultural services aren't statutory this report reinforces the fact that local authorities need museums and heritage to add that 'feel good factor' to their website. The museums need brand identity as we can not sit back and not worry about a whole host of issues, ie finances, visitor numbers and also not be hidden amongst a lot of other important services within a website.
I am encouraged by this report.
Thank you.

Nick (and all)
Thanks - this is very useful. MLA is meeting SOCITM (the Society of
Local IT Managers) in a couple of weeks about a number of related
issues, and will be able to use this.

Subject: Local Authority Museum websites - a report
Dear All,
You may remember that I sent out an enquiry recently concerning Local
Authority museums and their websites.
Firstly, I am hugely grateful to all those of you that responded, both
on-list and off. You provided a lot of really valuable and candid
information and this has helped us enormously.
As promised, I have written up the outcome of the consultation into a
short
report. Obviously, because this was an informal email survey rather than
a
full piece of research, it is a little short on numerical data. That
said, I
think it presents a pretty strong and compelling argument.
The report is summarised on the Collections Link website at
http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/online_publishing/la_sites. There is
also
a PDF download of the full report, which you will find linked on this
page.
I feel that this is an important issue, and relates to some important
principles about the kinds of services which museums are asked to
provide. I
would welcome any and all feedback on the report, and particularly any
thoughts about whether it is worth following up with a more concerted
piece
of research work in due course.
In the meantime, I hope you will find the report interesting and useful.
Do
please feel free to use it as part of your discussions with your
Authority.
With many thanks once again,
Nick
