PRESS RELEASE
EU Telecom rules: 15 infringement cases proceed, six are closed and one
is suspended (27 June 2007)In a new round of proceedings for
infringements of EU telecom rules, the European Commission has decided
to refer 4 cases to the European Court of Justice concerning Germany,
Poland and Portugal. The Commission has also opened 2 new cases against
Poland and Spain. Meanwhile, in follow-up cases, the Commission is
sending 8 reasoned opinions (the second stage of an infringement
proceeding) and is closing 6 cases.

Telecoms: Commission to take Germany to Court over
its "regulatory holiday" law (27 June 2007)In the dispute over Germany's
new telecom law, the Commission will refer Germany to the European Court
of Justice. Germany has failed to remove new provisions in German law
that could grant Deutsche Telekom a 'regulatory holiday' in spite of its
dominant position in the broadband market.

computer architecture research centre (26 June 2007)Professor Mateo
Valero of the Technical University of Catalonia and Director of the
Barcelona Supercomputing Centre has been selected as the recipient of
the 2007 Eckert-Mauchly Award. This has been awarded annually since
1979 for outstanding contributions to computer and digital systems
architecture.
