Polona, our masters in midwifery programme has had a module called
clinical practice development for a number of years. This involves the
student identifying an area for practice change, working through the
stages of change management and implementation with one of the
university staff, implementing the change in their practice centre, and
evaluating it.
I also run a module on the programme called normal birth, evidence and
debate. The module is based both on current research evidence, and on
telling stories based on the participants practice experience. In
between the taught seasons, the students reflect on their stories, and
those of their colleagues, and on what can be learned about practice.
Then they feed those insights back in to the group in subsequent
sessions.Ttheir assignment is based on a critical review of a number of
their own stories, using the relevant research evidence and theoretical
concepts. They are also required to use these findings to work out areas
for future personal and practice change based on their insights.
We use a number of underpinning theories for the module, including, of
course, Schons work on reflection in and on action. The module is always
very well evaluated.
If you are interested in knowing any more about either of these
modules, feel free to contact me off list.
Very best of luck with your programme development!

Hello!
No, this is not connected with my PhD. We are developing first MSc
programme
for midwives in Slovenia and we have very different view on this
topic.
Best wishes,
Polona
