Dear Members
I would like to make my introduction to the group. I am a midwifery
lecturer in the School of Midwifery which is part of the Faculty of
Health and Social Care Sciences at Kingston University and St Georges,
University of London. My main interests are reproductive physiology,
normal child birth and assessment of fetal wellbeing in labour. I am
currently undertaking a PhD entitled "Identification of the best
practice of auscultation of the fetal heart" so was very interested in
the recent dialogue on this subject and do feel that this is an under
researched subject especially in the light of recent DOH reports and
practice initiatives to promote normal childbirth. Research on time
intervals between auscultations is definitely needed as the 15 minute
timings in the first are very difficult to achieve and may not be
necessary. I look forward to contributing to future debates.
Best wishes
