Dear All,
I just wanted to clarify a few issues following some recent messages on
the listservs concerning BMJ Clinical Evidence. BMJ Group recently
announced a partnership with the Map of Medicine for the provision of an
evidence surveillance service. This evidence surveillance service is not
directly related to the content provided within BMJ Clinical Evidence.
For the Map of Medicine, the BMJ Group identifies important studies and
provides citations relevant to the care pathways presented. BMJ Clinical
Evidence is a separate product whereby BMJ Group undertakes comprehensive
and systematic reviews of the benefits and harms of interventions used to
treat key conditions, in order to provide doctors with treatment guidance
based on the latest evidence.
I would also like to clarify BMJ Group’s position with regards to
tendering for the NHS contract. As you know, BMJ Clinical Evidence had
previously been provided to clinicians within England through a contract
with the NHS. Unfortunately when this contract came up for renewal we were
not able to comply with the new terms and conditions that were introduced
by Connecting for Health, and as a result we understand that our bid was
not considered.
We remain very committed to the delivery of evidence to support clinical
decisions and have already implemented a range of enhancements to BMJ
Clinical Evidence, including key point summaries, links to emerging
studies appraised for validity, importance and relevance, and also to
internationally approved guidelines. Customers who wish to continue to
access BMJ Clinical Evidence can do so through a number of subscription
and special pricing packages for NHS sites, medical schools, other
institutions and individual customers. If you would like to know more
about any of these packages please do contact us at:
