Coping with Copyright: Advanced Aspects of Copyright for Information
Professionals
a UKeiG Course
to be held at
CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London, WC1E 7AE
Tuesday, 11th September 2007, 9.30-16.30
Course Outline
Copyright becomes an increasingly complex area as institutions or
organisations seek to exploit their own copyright materials or use the
copyrighted content of others in the course of day-today work. This Course
looks at many complex aspects of copyright in action, especially in the
digital environment. A wide range of topics will be covered in detail.
From this analysis, essential principles of applying and using the copyright
framework in a digital environment will be distilled. Good practice in
managing copyright issues particularly associated with digital content will
be developed.
The sessions will include:
* Copyright and contracts, licences and negotiating for e-resources
* Copyright issues in Virtual Learning Environments and corporate intranets
* Copyright and computer software and licensing
* Copyright and databases; videos and DVDs - what you can and cannot do
* Scanning and digitization and copyright
* Clearing rights: problems and good practice
* Web publishing and copyright (including blogs, hyper-linking etc.)
* Digital rights management and technological protection measures
* Copyright exceptions and users with disabilities
* Exploiting copyright material
* Copyright and other legal areas (e.g. data protection; freedom of
information)
* Recent developments in copyright and issues on the horizon
* Copyright infringement and analysis of risks
The course will be led by presentations but will include real-life problems
and scenarios for discussion, and plenty of opportunity for questions and
answers.
Who Should Attend
The Course is of relevance to a wide range of information professionals
working in all areas of the industry; to those charged with managing or
ensuring compliance with copyright law in their organisations and anyone
with a need to develop an awareness and knowledge of advanced aspects of
copyright.
It is ideal as a standalone course for those already conversant with
copyright basics or for those who have attended UKeiG's Coping With
Copyright: Essential Copyright for Information Professionals on 4th July
2007.
Delegates booking for this second course will receive a 10% discount if they
have already attended the first course.
