The Iraq decision made me feel politically powerless. As a doctor I
can't expect the Government to arrange things in the NHS exactly the
way we want them, but I do expect the Government to take notice of our
opinion and make decisions that take our opinion into account.
With Iraq there was strong feeling across the country that we should
not invade. Two million people going to London bore witness to that.
There were local demonstrations too. What else could we have done? And
still TB invaded.
That demonstrated that he was only interested in his own opinion,
would ignore all evidence to the contrary, and would invent as much
sexed-up spin as he needed to get his own way. And that is how he has
dealt with the Heath Service, inter alia.
If we are going to have a presidential PM we need stronger checks &
balances. Interesting that GB is meeting to discuss constitutional
issues today. So far he is showing no signs of having a narcissistic
personality disorder, and that can only be a good thing.
