The 64-bit address space problem is solved for the iMac. Thank you.
Now, however, I'm getting intermittent errors like the following when running tbss_1_preproc:
######################################################
processing 16F_0656_norm_rd
/usr/local/fsl/bin/tbss_1_preproc: line 33: 9918 Done $FSLDIR/bin/avwhd -x $f
9919 | sed "s/sform_code .*/sform_code = \'0\'/g"
9920 Bus error | sed "s/qform_code .*/qform_code = \'0\'/g" >grot.xml
Cannot open file grot.xml

** ERROR: nifti_image_read(FAi/16F_0656_norm_rd_FAi): bad data file

Error: failed to open file FAi/16F_0656_norm_rd_FAi

By intermittent, I mean that, if I run tbss_1_preproc all over again using the same images, I don't get the same error. Sometimes I get this error for a different image. In other words, the error is not repeatable.
Below is a second error when doing the same tbss_1_preproc run a second time:
######################################################

/usr/local/fsl/bin/tbss_1_preproc: line 33: 8162 Done $FSLDIR/bin/avwhd -x $f

A few details on the images: I am testing out an experimental scalar measure that I'm referring to as "normalized radial diffusivity". I'm using a scaling factor of 1000, and I have verified that the values will not exceed the 16-bit signed, short integer range.
Now, as a sanity check, I ran tbss_1_preproc (without a scaling argument) on my original FA images (which definitely gave no problems before), and I got another error:
######################################################
