Dear all,
Recently Richard Bowman (formerly of CSIRO) told me that the HSL workplace
inspectors in the UK are now using the SlipAlert device (see
http://www.slipalert.com/) in addition to their slip assessment tool (see
http://www.hsesat.info/).
He recommends the UK HSE data sheet (see
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/web/slips01.pdf ) for a general perspective. He
commented that the SlipAlert is useful for making a rapid assessment of an
accident site as it is easily transportable and requires minimal training.
Apparently there is another device called the Kirchberg - but I have yet to
see one. There is info on the "Evaluation of the Kirchberg rolling slider
and SlipAlert slip resistance meters - HSL/2006/65" at this link;
http://www.hsenews.com/2006/09/18/evaluation-of-the-kirchberg-rolling-
slider-and-slipalert-slip-resistance-meters-hsl200665/
Does everyone use a 4S slider for workplaces? Do the results for accident
sites correlate with the accident rates (does the test have "validity")?
