I'm all in favour of a rant or two! Given that the standards for toilets
are one of the longest running in relation to an accessible environment
it never ceases to amaze me how few there are that actually meet the
most basic of standards.
In terms of campaigns you might want to contact SCOPE who have been
having a go at this one for some time with their Free to Pee campaign as
a part of their work under the banner of Time to Get Equal. They have a
website - http://www.scope.org.uk/timetogetequal/
Ps They had a Free to Pee Big Night Out...

Please consider the environment. Do you really need to print this email?

Subject: "Doc M" Packs
I have just been out on site to see a new modular building which has
been
built to provide wheelchair accessible accommodation at an Outdoor
Education Centre. The WC / shower has been fitted with standard off the
shelf "Doc M" packs - which don't comply with Doc M!
The front of the shower seat was only 380mm from the rear wall, not
650mm
as Part M asks, and had no back rest. The emergency alarm cords had
triangular bangles, not round 50mm diameter bangles as per Part M and so
on and so on.
I'm sorry I'm having a bit of a rant here, but it really annoys me that
these companies are selling products which are supposed to comply with
Approved Document M, but don't! Other than taking individual companies
to
task, perhaps under Trades Descriptions, is there nothing that can be
done? Should I start a campaign?
