Dear all,
With apologies for cross-posting.
In September 2007 there will be a new resource for those working in the
area of data protection, freedom of information, copyright and records
management:– the JISC Information Governance Gateway (JIGG). The gateway
is intended as a “one stop shop for all matters relating to information
governance legislation & the higher education sector”. Some sections will
be open to everyone (inc. resources and news) others will be restricted to
members of the HE sector (e.g. a community area).
BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT:
The JIGG project was commissioned as part of JISC’s ongoing programme of
activities aimed at supporting and developing institutional records
management and compliance with information-related legislation. The
project was initially run as a joint partnership between the University of
Manchester and Liverpool John Moores University (led by Steve Wood). From
March 2007 onwards the project team is exclusively from the University of
Manchester. I have recently taken over as project lead.
HE SECTOR VOLUNTEERS WANTED!
This is a project in development. In order to ensure strong HE
practitioner focus to the gateway, five JIGG Advisory Groups will be set up
(Scotland, North, Midlands, SW and SE); volunteers from the HE sector are
warmly invited to join the group of their choice. Please email me off-
list. Members of Advisory Groups will initially test the beta version of
the gateway, be the first to hear about any plans for the future of the
gateway and hopefully will provide advice and robust critical comments! It
is anticipated that the groups will meet face-to-face once this summer and
once in 2008, with the rest of the discussions being online.
Any queries or thoughts please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Very best,
Jonathan
